Be strong as a horse – but never let it show!

February 13, 2014 By Line Frederiksen

Having a hard day at the office? The professional ballet dancer does, 6 days a week. These days the Royal Danish Theatre let all the rest of us have a look behind the scenes as the dancers are doing their hardcore morning workout.

Show your strenght up and down the parallel bars …

It is definitely fascinating to see the dancers unfold their talent in the rough settings of the Old Stage – dressed in ordinary grey sweetpants, black tanks and legwarmers. No fancy show or scenery, but legs up in all possible (and impossible) positions that you could ever dream of, accompanied by live music from the piano at the corner of the stage.

The beautiful athletics never show sign of pain. A true dancer is strong as a horse, but still a pretty petite … or to put it in the words of today’s ballet-teacher, Adam Lüders: “You are not supposed to be a human being, you are superhuman!”

If you feel like watching the dancers doing their hard work – go for brunch’n’ballet

The legs and arms must go aaaaall the way up. Wauv!
